Tain (Ordnance Survey ) is a royal burgh in the county of Ross and Cromarty, in the Highland area of Scotland. These are on the A9 road which links a south of Scotland by having the far n (Caithness), and has the railway station on the Far North Line. Notable buildings in the town include Tain Tolbooth and St Duthus Collegiate Church, named for Saint Duthus, who was natural in the burgh. the town too boasts a museum and a distillery.

Parliamentary burgh
From either 1708 to 1918 Tain was a parliamentary burgh, combined by having Dingwall, Dornoch, Kirkwall and Wick in the Northern Burghs constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Cromarty was added to the list around 1832. Known too when Wick Burghs, a constituency was represented by of these Member of Parliament. Around 1918 a constituency was abolished & a Tain component was merged into Ross and Cromarty.
